Fat Tuesday is around the corner, Chicago. That means it’s time to get in line for an annual tradition: Paczki. These Polish doughnuts sweeten anyone’s day, but natives know that to secure an adequate amount of paczki (pronounced “poonch-key”), strategies need to be developed.
So be on the look out for online order forms and order deadlines. Carve out enough time during lunch hours to drop by a bakery near work to score a bag. Some bakeries even may deliver paczki. All this planning is required to avoid disappointment.
What’s new this year? Fine dining is trying their hands at paczki, as Bohemian House is offering their take for the very first time. Over in Evanston, Hewn allows folks who are avoiding fried foods to indulge with their baked version. Beverly Bakery Café offers a coffee blend to drink while enjoying a paczki.
No, Paczki Day isn’t enjoyed just by the those with Polish blood. It’s as Chicago as Casimir Pulaski Day, only a lot tastier. Check out the list in this link and suggest any additions in the comments.
